Looking for TWO FTC Veterinary Surgeons – Prince Bishop Veterinary Hospital – County Durham
Flexible start date and working pattern
12 month fixed term contract
Perfect location for outdoor pursuits
At Prince Bishop Veterinary Hospital in County Durham, two of our much loved vets are going on maternity leave in early 2021 so we are looking for TWO vets to join our team on fixed term, 12 month contracts. We’re a seven vet, small animal hospital based close to Durham and Newcastle and in a perfect location for whatever outdoor activity you fancy doing in your time off. The house prices and rents are really affordable and travelling is easy with the east coast train line, Newcastle airport and the A1 close by so we would make a great base for anyone wanting to explore the rest of the UK or spend time visiting friends and family after a year of COVID restrictions.
To work around your other commitments, there is a lot of flexibility in terms of the days and hours to be worked (ideally a minimum of 25 hours per week, up to full time) but to give you an idea of how our rota works, our full time vets work 4 day weeks with 1 in 7 weekends (with time off in lieu) and 1 in 7 Saturdays (only consulting 9am-3pm). We do our own on call until 10pm and our patients are looked after by a nurse on site overnight which is great for case continuity and is one of the many reasons we have a large number of bonded clients. All of our vets have come here as new or very recent graduates and stayed for good so I can promise you that we’re the best team to work with, and you can even bring your dog to work!
We could certainly accommodate one new/recent graduate as we have lots of experience with mentoring new graduates, but we are also an ideal practice for a more experienced vet (or two), especially if you want lots of operating days as we have a great surgical caseload and laparoscopic kit too, which we can train you to use. We work up the vast majority of our cases in house, have multi-parameter anaesthetic monitoring in both theatres as well as dental X-ray, endoscopy and tonometry. We have medicine and behaviour certificate holders, a really experienced RVN team and we are a nurse training practice so there is lots of support available from the rest of our team, whatever time of the day you need it. The positions would be suitable for a couple or two people who know each other and would prefer to have their time off together, but for someone thinking of relocating to the area on their own, we would be happy to show you all the best beaches, dogs walks and scenery the Northumbrian coast and North of England has to offer as lots of our team spend time together socialising outside of work as well.
The salary range is £30,500-£50,000 and the start date is flexible (any time from February 2021). We will pay for RCVS and VDS fees as well as one professional subscription and we provide Healthshield membership too. Other benefits include company sick pay and employee pet discounts.
